Losing my husband in October 2023, after a six-month battle with a rare cancer, has knocked the wind out of me. My heart is broken into a million pieces. When you lose half of yourself, you will never be the same again. How do you find the strength to seek out a new normal without your life partner?
I have been doing the hard and exhausting work of grieving and mourning him. The hospice team provided me with an opportunity to meet with a grief counselor. He recommended a book to begin reading prior to our first visit - Grief One Day at a Time by Dr. Alan D. Wolfelt. However, I ordered the wrong book, Grief Day by Day. That was the best mistake I could have made. This book made so much sense to me and has provided me with suggestions for honoring my husband's life and our 40 years of memories.
If you are on a grief journey, or know someone who is, I highly recommend the books of Dr. Alan Wolfelt. The teachings in these books have helped me to put words and momentum to my grief journey. The books are available at the Center for Loss links below.
I pray that you have people around you who are supportive, non-judgmental, and are open to just listening or sitting with you in silence.
Be kind to yourself.

The above books are also available through library loans in addition to audio book downloads. I will typically read the audio books while taking long walks.
